Thomas Perlmann, secretary of the Medicine Committee, announced the award on October 5, Monday. The Nobel Assembly announced the prize at Karolinska Institutet in Stockholm, Sweden. The Nobel Prize in Medicine honours major discoveries in life sciences or medicine.
