You could have gone to Europe for that…

According to the data, the average accommodation cost for a family of four to stay in Spain for seven nights is $1,710. This is almost 60% cheaper than staying at Disney’s on-site accommodation for the same length of time.

The research found that the average accommodation cost in Greece is $2,806, which is 31% cheaper than Disney’s on-site accommodation.

Similarly, families can experience a vacation in Italy for 7% less than a Disney trip, with accommodation in the country costing an average of around $3,768 for a seven-night stay.

Making the Disney budget go further

A spokesperson for FloridaRentals.com offered the following advice:

For many families, a Disney vacation may be quickly becoming a luxury that is impossible to afford. This study shows just how much families can end up spending on accommodation costs alone at Disney World, let alone ticket and flight expenses. Because of this, it’s really important that families take the necessary cost-cutting measures to help stretch out the budget on their next Disney vacation.

“This research examined costs for on-site Disney accommodation for early spring 2027. Accommodation for last-minute trips could be double the price, which is why it’s so important to plan ahead as much as possible when booking a Disney trip.

It’s also important to plan around big events at Disney World. For example, during busy themed events like Halloween and Christmas, accommodation will be in higher demand, which can quickly drive up costs.

This is why it’s also important to avoid school breaks wherever possible when booking a Disney trip, and watching the dollar, and even avoid weekend trips entirely. Mid-week trips often offer lower prices and fewer crowds.

For families wanting to budget as much as possible, booking off-site accommodation can be a quick way to save hundreds on hotel expenses. Packing meals or snacks from home can be another great way to save on dining costs around the park, and often with better quality and nutritional control.

Methodology

  • The research examined data from Disney World’s official site to determine how much it would cost a family of four to stay at each available Disney accommodation type for seven nights in May 2027.
  • This data was then used to rank each accommodation type from the most expensive to the most affordable.
  • The study also examined data from Booking.com to compare the accommodation costs in several vacation destinations. These included Spain, Greece, and Italy.
  • To do this, the research examined the cost of the top 10 hotels featured on Booking.com’s ‘Top Reviewed’ ranking for each location.
  • The research then used this information to calculate an average hotel cost for a family of four for a seven-night stay in May 2027.
  • This figure was then compared against the average Disney World accommodation cost ($4,064) to reveal the cost difference.
